North corporation launches 100-day cleanliness drive


New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS): The North Delhi Municipal Corporation Tuesday launched a 100-day "sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive" after successful completion of a similar week-long drive launched ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

The drive will continue till Nov 15.

"It would emphasise micro-level monitoring of day-to-day cleanliness in all areas, repair and maintenance of roads, painting of street-lights and high-mast lights, removal of silt and floating material from big drains, repair of manholes, cleanliness of public urinals, besides other issues such as taking preventive measures for control of water- and vector-borne diseases," Yogender Chandolia, North Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor said at the launch.

The officials have also been directed to fine the repeat offenders. The civic body has urged citizens and residents welfare association (RWA's) to give suggestions.

"The drive includes upkeeping of parks, pruning of trees, removal of horticulture waste from parks, roadsides, lanes. The corporation is making all out efforts for improving civic services," Mohan Bhardwaj, standing committee chairman said.

Further, Commissioner Praveen Gupta directed all deputy Commissioner of the zones to carry out regular field inspections in different areas to monitor the impact of drive so that immediate action can be taken if any irregularity is noticed.
