Geneva, Aug 18 (IANS): The World Health Organisation (WHO) Monday called for an end to the targeting of health workers during conflicts and other humanitarian crises.
WHO said a day before World Humanitarian Day Aug 19 that there was a continuing trend of attacks on health care workers, hospitals, clinics and ambulances in Syria, Gaza, the Central African Republic (CAR), Iraq, South Sudan and other countries, Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, threats and harassment of health workers in the West African countries, where the outbreak of the Ebola has taken lives of over 1,000 people, have also been a matter of concern.
Professionals are taking life-risks to provide critical medical care. They have been threatened, shunned and stigmatised, the agency pointed out.
