Mangalore: Aug 27: Sparsha. the Youth Counselling Centre established by Konkani Yuva Awaz in Apr 2006, has launched a series of social work activities for the cause of youth.

A feature on the cap of the centre is that all 7 social work institutions under Mangalore University have extended their supported to the Centre and have been sending their social work student to participate and learn in the Center’s activities.

 

On Sunday, Aug 27 the field work for I year students of social work (MSW) attached to Sparsha was inaugurated in the Konkani Yuva Awaz office, Near Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte here.

Twenty students of social work of St Aloysius College, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore University College, Alva’s College Moodbidri, Karavali College, Sri Devi College and Srinivas College of Social Work will be a part of Sparsha.

These students will join the mission of popularizing the Youth counselling, stated a press release from the Centre.

They will also help the fellow students by providing them psychological support and guidance through the facilities available with Sparsha.

Sushil Noronha, member of management committee of Fr Muller Institutions presided over the inauguration function.

Ronald Sequeira, Professor of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya College of Social Work was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, motivated the students by advising them to internalize the concepts of social work in their association with Sparsha.

Judy Pinto, Chief of Sparsha Counsellors team delivered a talk on Counselling.

Roshan Castelino, president of Konkani Yuva Awaz welcomed the gatherings.  Denis D’Silva, general secretary proposed vote of thanks.

Sparsha has chalked out special plans to assist the youth staying in hostels of the city. A scientific survey will also be conducted to create a data bank of various educational facilities available in Mangalore and the cost for each course. This would help the parents to do the finance plan for the higher education of their children.
