Agra set for facelift in two years


Agra, Aug 9 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government has promised to change Agra's profile and give the city a facelift in the next two years, an official said Saturday.

Reviewing various developmental projects and tourism plans in Agra Friday evening at the Circuit House, Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said the chief minister will lay the foundation of a Rs.1,000 crore Theme Park in the next few months.

The problem of water scarcity would be resolved permanently once the Ganga Jal pipeline project is completed by 2016. The Greenfield Agra-Lucknow Expressway, inner city Ring Road, the Rs.140 crore Taj Ganj project for facelifting the entire area around the Taj Mahal, Alok Ranjan said. 

Pro-poor tourism development project and some other infrastructural projects were being given priority attention, and the results would soon start showing, Ranjan added.

He said that three major projects including inner city Ring Road, Ganga Jal project and the Taj Ganj beautification project that includes development of 15 slum clusters will be completed by December 2016.
