Udupi, Aug 22: The city witnessed another blood bath on Monday August 21 night when Hitendra Prasad, editor of "Hai Maruta" weekly was hacked to death by unidentified persons near a live band at Manipal here.

It is said that Hitendra had gone for live reporting of raid on a live band at Manipal on Monday night.  However, a group of three unidentified men hit him with sabre.  As a result he sustained serious injuries.  Though he was fighting for life on the spot, no one admitted him to the hospital till police rushed him to KMC Hospital.  However, he succumbed to injuries later in the night.

The sources said that JD (S) activists had gone to raid a live band functioning in the heart of Manipal.  Having received this news, Hitendra is said to have gone for a live coverage.  But the miscreants attacked him and killed him. 

Though no one is arrested in this regard, a complaint has been filed on 4 persons in the Manipal police station.

Hitendra Prasad is survived by father Damodar, mother Sulochana, wife Shobhita, younger brother Rajendra, sisters Vidya and Veena.  Hitendra had married Shobhita a year ago at a grand wedding ceremony.
