Suspected militants arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Aug 2 (IANS): Two suspected militants, including a police constable, have been arrested in Tripura and some incriminating documents and fake Indian currency seized from them, police said Saturday.

"Acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles troopers detained two suspected extremists from a house here Friday night. The paramilitary forces later handed over the duo to police," Milan Datta, police inspector, told IANS.

He said: "Two mobile sets, fake Indian currency of Rs.1,000 denomination and leaflets of outlawed militant outfit NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) were recovered from them."

After arresting the suspected militants - Jyotish Debbarma and Indrajoy Reang - police Saturday presented them in a court which sent them to police custody for five days.

Jyotish Debbarma is a constable in the Tripura Police and was posted as a house guard for a political leader.
