Myanmar appoints new information minister

Yangon, Aug 1 (IANS): The Myanmar government Friday appointed presidential spokesman U Ye Htut as the new information minister.

The appointment came days after former minister of information U Aung Kyi announced his resignation July 29, Xinhua reported.

There are significant changes and positive developments in media reform in Myanmar since the new civilian government gave the green light to the private media industry.

U Ye Htut, who was also former deputy information minister, became presidential spokesman in January 2013.

Meanwhile, Than Aung was assigned as new minister of health to replace Pe Thet Khin who also resigned from the post earlier this week.
