Language row in Bangalore Archdiocese: Final solution on July 17?

Gabriel Vaz
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jun 4: A final solution to the vexed language row over the liturgical celebrations in the Bangalore Archdiocese, which has been defying solutions for almost four decades, appears to be likely if the all powerful Senate body of the Archdiocese takes an unanimous decision at its next meeting in Bangalore on July 17.
If the Senate of Priests and the College of Consultors recommend the guidelines as mentioned in the latest official circular issued by the Archdiocese, Kannada will continue to remain as the principal language of the Archdiocese and enjoy prime slot in the Mass Timings as well as in Liturgical Celebrations.

However, along with Kannada, the major languages of Tamil and English, that formed part of the three-language formula adopted during the tenure of former Archbishop Dr Alphonse Mathias, other languages such as Telugu, Malayalam and even Konkani will find a place.

Incidentally, it is quite likely that any final solution to the language row in the Archdiocese of Bangalore may have its repercussions in other parts of the State, especially in Dioceses like Chikmagalur, Mysore and Shimoga as the Konkani speaking people in these dioceses have been quite restive over the years.

If the Bangalore model of solving the language row leads to similar exercises in other dioceses, it might improve linguistic harmony and unity among the Catholic faithful all over the State.
The meeting of the Senate body of the Bangalore Archdiocese had been convened thrice in the recent past to solve the language issue but the meetings of January 10, March 3 and April 9 could not arrive at any concrete solution.

Controversy Defying Solution for 40 years

Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Bernard Moras, who had been facing serious problems in different parishes in the Archdiocese over the last several years, has in the latest circular of the Archdiocese No. 120 for the month of June 2014, pointed out that a 10-member committee of priests from the Senate was appointed ''to propose ways and means to sort out the language issue that has been troubling the Archdiocese from the last 40 years.”
However, the Archbishop and the Official Circular are silent on the report and findings of the three-member high-level committee appointed by the Vatican Envoy to India under the Chairmanship of Archbishop Dr Thomas Menaparampil, which met a large number of delegations in Bangalore in 2012 on demands for a separate Semianary and also the language issue.
The 10-member committee with Fr Xavier Manavanth, Director of Sanyasa and former Provincial of the Claretian Missionaries in Bangalore, as the Moderator, appointed by the Bangalore Archdiocesan Senate was given a 5-point criteria to find a solution that takes care of the concerns of the people belonging to the faithful belonging to different languages in the Archdiocese.

The 5-point criteria is, as follows:

1. Liturgical guidelines given by the Church in its Documents;
2. Cosmopolitan and Multi-cultural scenarios of the Archdiocese;
3. Language profile of our faithful in the Archdiocese;
4. Pastoral responsibilities of the priests towards the faithful; and
5. Promotion of language, culture, tradition to deepen people’s faith and to give impetus to evangelization and pastoral care in the Archdiocese.

The Archbishop, in his latest circular from the Archdiocese, has asked all Archdiocesan priests to directly send their suggestions to Fr Xavier Manavanth at the Archbishop’s Residence ''so that we come closer to a solution in this regard.”

12-Point Guidelines

Some of the points and suggestions that came up discussion, which ''could be guidelines for arriving at final conclusion,” the basic thrust of all the 12 point guidelines to accord primacy to Kannada, the State’s Official language, as the Principal language of the Archdiocese, and giving Kannada the prime place and slot in the liturgical celebrations.

However, unlike the three-language formula adopted in Archdiocese, when Archbishop Emeritus Dr Alphonsus Mathias was the Archbishop, has been sought to given the go by. Thus, apart from Kannada, English and Tamil the three main languages in the Archdiocese for Masses and Liturgical celebrations, the 12-point guidelines proposes give leeway to accommodate other languages like Telugu, Malayalam and Konkani too.

''The criterion for selecting the language for the liturgy should not be based on the language of the State but primarily on the profile of the faithful participating in it,” says the Guidelines by emphasizing that apart from Kannada, ''provision has to be made to have the liturgical services in other languages also. Pastoral responsibility demands that the spiritual needs of these faithful are to be respected and fulfilled. Bangalore being a metropolitan city, Masses and liturgical services within Bangalore city and sub-urban Parishes of Bangalore should be offered in English.”

''While respecting the local language, culture and tradition, the Church has the duty to respect and promote other languages, cultures and traditions,” the Guidelines held that ''It is the duty of the Parish Pastoral Council to propose the language/s for the liturgy based on the profile of the parish community. The Archbishop taking into consideration the recommendation made by the Dean and the Parish Priest and also in consultation with the Members of the Priests’ Council and the College of Consultors, will decide the language/s to be used in the liturgy in the parish.

The 12-point guidelines listed in the latest official circular are:

1) The principal language of the Archdiocese is Kannada. However, masses and other liturgical services are to be conducted in other subsidiary languages depending on the need of the congregation. In all parishes of the Archdiocese, the principal language is to be encouraged in Masses and liturgical services and gradually introduced where it is not existing. The language in the liturgy should be understood by the vast majority of the people present at the worship for their better understanding, participation and interaction. Hence, the criterion for selecting the language for the liturgy should not be based on the language of the State but primarily on the profile of the faithful participating in it.

2) The Archdiocese of Bangalore is a cosmopolitan city with different linguistic groups (such as Kannada, English, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Konkani and other smaller migrant groups) settled in Bangalore. Besides Kannada, provision has to be made to have the liturgical services in other languages also. Pastoral responsibility demands that the spiritual needs of these faithful are to be respected and fulfilled. Bangalore being a metropolitan city, Masses and liturgical services within Bangalore city and sub-urban Parishes of Bangalore should be offered in English.

3) Many migrant youth and workers are coming into Bangalore and their spiritual needs have to be taken care of.

4) While respecting the local language, culture and tradition, the Church has the duty to respect and promote other languages, cultures and traditions.

5) The Archdiocesan common liturgical celebrations can be held in Kannada language by making provision for reading and singing in different languages that are prevalent at present in the Archdiocese.

6) Kannada language should be given importance in the Archdiocese and the Kannada Services should be conducted in all parishes. When a new parish is erected and the Masses are arranged in different languages, Kannada Mass should be scheduled at the prime time.

7) It is the duty of the Parish Pastoral Council to propose the language/s for the liturgy based on the profile of the parish community. The Archbishop taking into consideration the recommendation made by the Dean and the Parish Priest and also in consultation with the Members of the Priests’ Council and the College of Consultors, will decide the language/s to be used in the liturgy in the parish.

8) When a new parish is erected and/or an existing parish is bifurcated, the Archdiocesan Boundary Committee will propose the parish limits and also the profile of the new parish. The Archbishop, in consultation with the members of the Priests’ Council and the College of Consultors, will issue directives pertaining to the language policy for the new parish.

9) The Archbishop has to decide and implement the language policy in the parishes, institutions and mission units in the Archdiocese after studying the profile of the parish in consultation with the Statutory Bodies.

10) Funeral, weddings, jubilee Masses/Services should be conducted in a language of choice of parties, provided these services are not during fixed services of the parish.

11) In parishes where there are two or three language Masses or services on various occasions, it will continue or where necessary will be introduced.

12) All issues should be solved in a cordial atmosphere with mutual respect, openness and dialogue.

History will prove it and you need time for it.

Tamilians are not against any language but defiantly needs their deserving right as all other linguistic people do.

Mr Ajay, I fully endorse your views. Nobody grudges Kannada being given primacy and the main slot in Mass and Liturgical celebrations whether it is in the morning or in the evening.

But what is the harm if large number of people prefer to have Mass and Liturgical Services in their own mother-tongue be it in Konkani, Tamil, Malayalam or Telugu. If this is understood and accepted in the right spirit, the church will prosper and help the faithful. There has to be a will to accommodate people of other languages.

The love of some people for Kannada should not come in the way of other people offering prayers and worshiping in their own mother-tongues.

The comments from some readers as what happens in Tamil Nadu, Kerala or elsewhere is irrelevant. We are talking about the problems in the Archdiocese of Banglore.

I live in the US and my local church here has Sunday mass in English, Spanish, Vietnamese,Tamil and Tagalog(Philippines)

This is a unnecessary controversy in Bangalore. Mature grown up people should be able to sort this out in a peaceful manner.

The ultimate goal is to make sure that the prayer service is meaningful to the people who attend the service.

Kannada mass can be given the prime slot as it is the state language, but masses in other languages should be accommodated to. I cannot understand why this is such a big problem to solve.

Malayalee population & language will dominate in Mangalore. If this is a genuine worry and we believe that we need to do something to sustain Konkani in Mangalore then please let’s accept that in Bangalore Kannada has to be given its rightful place.

It seems that Catholic faith practicing population of Bangalore Archdiocese attend church services, more to to practice their language!!!

Because of huge migrant workforce, Bangalore population has adapted Kannada, English, Hindi, Konkani, Tulu, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and other languages. Still, English being a capitalistic, Science & technology friendly language from last two decades majority of the South Indian parents have preferred English language education to their children.

If Catholic Church make a case study of it's population at each parish, it is likely that more than 60% would opt for Church services in English, even though Kannada is it's official language. Kannada, Konkani and Tamil are likely to be popular among traditional and less literate population. Therefore, English and Kannada Church services in all the parishes plus any other language Church Service can be held based on density of population of the parish, in the particular language. This looks like a more suitable conclusion to the language problem within the Archdiocese of Bangalore.

Now you talk in a prophetic way by using bible quotes.

Mr. GV sir, many of my good friends are Konkanis like you. I never said Konkani or Tamil should not be given any chance. Same time I am for the legitimate right what these Kannadigas are asking for, as Jesus said 'give what belong to caesar'. Whether it is Bhayander Church, Chandigarh Church or Bangalore Church, people of the soil did the initial ploughing, but the crop shoud not be carried away by the migrants. Because migrants have dual citizenship whereas natives have to live in there. Why they are not fit for jobs or seats in your institutions, why should they be treated as second citizens in their own land, why not seminary entries, and why not good positions.

So it is not the language alone, but the justice. An 100 year old Nagenahalli Church needs to be rebuilt but bishop disapproves, but at the same time bishops own people buy a land make 100 sites build a church of their own, and bishop blesses it without informing the parish priest. I can speak to you in length in such instances. These instances definitely sow a wrong messages in our younger generations. And finally it is detrimental to the Church. Let love prevail everywhere, let people trust one another, let HIS kingdom come.

Mr C Marie Joseph, Bengaluru, your love for Kannada is understandable.

For us, people of Karnataka, especially Mangaloreans, Kannada is the State language.

Mangaloreans learn Kannada only in Schools/Colleges while they learn Konkani/Tulu from Childhood either as their mother-tongue or language of the region. But all of us Mangaloreans love our mother-tongue as well as the regional language, whichever religion we belong. We Mangaloreans are not parochial or language fanatics.

What is objectionable is the attitude of some of the so-called Kannada activists, who want even people with other languages as their mother-tongues be it Konkani, Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam to worship only in Kannada and not in their mother-tongues when even the Church, allows worship in the vernacular especially after Vatican II. Like Hindus, who still use Sanksrit in the temples and religious rituals without understanding a bit, we Catholics used Latin until Vatican II.

Let us be practical and large-hearted. Nobody objects to worshiping by people in Kannada during the main festival masses or liturgical functions. But if these so-called Kannada lovers act like Talibans and insist that only their way is the highway and that people of other languages as their mother tongues should use Kannada, that is highly objectionable. I hope the Archdiocese has the courage to set right the anomaly and allow the freedom of worship to the people in their own mother-tongues rather than use only Kannada. The actions of so-called Kannada activists to seek the help of Chidananda Murthys, Champa, Narayana Gowdas or BT Lalitha Nayaks is certainly objectionable.

Let Mr C Marie Joseph comment on this rather than asking Konkani or other language people to use Kannada in all masses/liturgical services in the Church.

But there is no Christian Mass where all the faithful assemble at one altar, as one family, break one bread. People find joy and happiness in yelling loudly in their languages as if they are in a competition among others. Look at the priests they resemble dacoits. In Tamil Nadu the prime language is Tamil there is no other language.Similarly the Prime Language in Karnataka Should be in Kannada. The Konkani from coastal lines are form part of Karnataka their Script also in Kannada these fact has to be appreciated. Many claim to be Kannadiga's are forgotten the Fact that Mangalore is not separate State but district of Karnataka.Even Karvar is form part of Karnataka but they speak Konkani.Coorg people speak Kodagu but they too form part of Karnataka.Kindly respect the multi culture of our state and also the country. We are not here to divide the state and country but unite the country and State. Yes once division took place in 1947 Still we are facing the unending problem. What one need is peace. That peace is available with the Christ. When he was born, Whole heaven rejoiced and said Peace on the earth. because Evil one tormenting the people, God the father sends his only son to die for our sins so that we could live righteous life. By his wounds we are healed. After the Resurrection the message of Christ is Peace be with you.Even mathew he says Blessed are those who are Peace makers.' The Lord Jesus ' Gives peace which surpasses all the peaces of the earth.Let us obey the authorities, respect other languages, customs, culture as we been respecting all these years. We have to pray for our parish priest because they are human like us, they are coming out of our own families, their life is unnatural way of living. They need more prayer from the people. Let us spread the Gospel in deed and actions by living in peace which Jesus Christ taught us. Yes everything is not correct, somewhere something is wrong, let us use the power of Holy Spirit to set right. The peace of Christ can deliver us, the presence of Christ Devil will tremble and he is powerless. All sickness will be released. Let us understand the Power of God and his majesty. Surrender him will all your heart he is our Saviour. Worship him because he is son of God.

As well said by the PM Mr. Narendra Modi Good days are coming. We pray the same Good days are coming in the Bangalore Diocese too. First of all Karnataka People's Sentiment has to be respected. Second based on the demand of the people respective masses has to place. While worshiping God, the worship should not be restricted to lips but it should come from heart. The mother tongue of the people and the prayer in their mother tongue will help the people. This will be the best move and all are happy. What Simon Lourdusamy of Pondichery as the bishop of Bengaluru has done is injustice to the Kannada. It is the practice of India when some law is passed it keeps moving, nobody has the courage to change. What he might have done that time will not suit present scenario, hence there is immediate attention to amend the 3 language formula.I would strongly recommend one Hindi Language mass at least 2 churches because We should respect our Rashtriya Bashe.English is the language of British.Hindi is the Language of Hindustan.Hence Kannada and Hindi has to be given equal importance then other languages follow as per the requirement.Kindly do not fight in the name of the Language, it is only touch our heart what we pray, let the prayer comes deep from heat not just from lips. The Injustice has done for the past years let us rectify and let us worship our Lord Jesus and let us respect all the people. Let the peace of Christ & Unity of Lord be with us forever. My personal appeal to all Catholics We have to pray for our priests, nuns and Bishops because they are belongs to our family, their life is unnatural way of living. They need more prayer from our side.Kindly pray for your parish priests.Let us proclaim the word of God with love, peace and joy. Let Jesus be our center place so that we could work for his kingdom. We will live with peace with all languages, let us forget the differences and let us identify with Christ as brothers and sisters. God Bless Every one.

Mr. Rohan, has said, Kannada Christians are in minority, but for that reason why should they be deprived of worshiping God. I have seen, whenever I whisper “I am not worthy to receive you . . “ in my language that is Kannada the people by my sides have disgruntled. It is the same situation for any Kannadiga who hails from outskirt village of Bengaluru and have a chance to participate in a feast mass at a city parish. For decades, Kannada is the language to be hated and Kannadigas are third class citizens. Then what is evangelization? Is it serving the spiritual needs to only the available majority people or to go after the lost sheep and also across the world? Here the world is the vast Kannada speaking majority who doesn’t know of Christ at all.

More than fifty five years ago the liturgical services were in latin
only. In karnataka so many migrant languages are creating confusion and chaos invariably diminishing the sanctity of the place of worship. This has forced communities to divide and pray by themselves isolating the the mother church. I strongly condemn the various association who interfere in affairs of divine management. Therefore the Archdiocese should not succumb to any outside pressure. The main mass should be in english which can be relished by everyone and the mass in any other language can be on second priority basis depending on the strength of the parish community. I am sure english is the best medium rest others are only optionals. Mangloreans love Konkani mass but not tamil and kannada for sure. Kannada & Tamil catholics are minorities in Karnataka and we konkani catholics will fight for justice and will not allow any sanga to override our integrity. Jai ho Konkani & English.

I agree all your explanation regarding the language issue only in the churches, why can't you people implement same in all the schools and colleges where only kannada can be thought and you people need only english medium schools/colleges for your children and they attend only english masses and you people are not aware of this and just talk about others to pray in Kannada is it justified???

Tamilians, Malayalis and Telugus have taken jobs in Government dept, Banks and Most MNCs in Bangalore, Kannadigas are facing similar problems as faced by Marathis in Mumbai prior to birth of shivsena.Majority of priests in Bangalore are Tamilians , but they need to learn Kannada and conduct mass in Kannada only. when i did my Engineering in Bangalore during late Eighties, one of the Parish i was attending there were only three persons available in the whole parish including me and priest he is also Mangalorean.

This is not Final solution, but the final nail in the coffin for Kannada in Bangalore diocese. In the pretext of prominence to Kannada in the diocese, it is a plan to bring in all other languages to parishes where there is only Kannada liturgy now. Also, the priest and the Parish council can now officially pounce upon the already beleaguered Kannada and Kannada speaking Christians. Hail the Circular and policies. Very cleverly done. Congrats to the shepherds.

In Dubai Most of the masses will be English regardless of community, but there are other language masses depending on their strength. Konkani strength is less than Tagalog and Malyali allotment of mass is one per month for Konkani. Hence in Bangalore everyone knows Kannada mass should be in Kannada and some monthly or fortnightly masses for high numbered communities as per their number.

Most of the Hindu priests are reciting their prayers in Sanskrit and Muslims use Urdu. They may be using other languages also. Of course it is their prerogative!

It is unfortunate that Language has become an issue to worship God. God has no language except " LOVE " !! Lets us all learn to love and respect each other with peace and harmony, that is the Language that God will appreciate.
In a place like Bangalore, a Metro City, people of all faiths, with different languages live. Why should State Language dominate when Kannada speaking people are not in majority. Since Churches have Religious Services in all possible languages, why should there be an allegation against Arch Bishop.
Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras has been trying hard to maintain balance, which should be appreciated. He has been dragged in un necessary controversial issues. He is a hard working, sincere, tolerable and people friendly, humble Bishop // Priest of God.This issue is un-called for.
Come on people grow beyond language boundaries and live like Practicing Catholics and not preaching Catholics. Allow a Sincere Servant of God to do his work and learn to appreciate god things in life.

I am comfortable with Konkani and English. However I never raise issue of language and I love all languages. Praying/Speaking in tongues is my language.

I remind here with to every believer whichever God has made was for the good of the humans.
All the believers should worship the Lord God in his own mother tongue or in Father Tongue (Some mothers expired during the child’s delivery or from accident then father only are the Child's tongue).
The language differences should be accomplished amicably, friendly at whatever be the cost even if priests, pastors, evangelists suffer heavily as they are ought to suffer for the church of Jesus Christ.
The evil is so busy in this world who has so devised the people and all have gone behind materialistic, linguistic, immoral sex, deceptions, fornications and loose tongues in this world. With all these evil tactics many will lose faith. Many husbands, Wife’s and children love will grow cold.
I quote: Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold Unquote.
Due to losing of faith in the Gospel of Christ wife’s and Husband’s and vise versa encourage their children and themselves will follow other faith and many will lose faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
At the appointed time when Jesus returns in His Glory with all angels and saints, He will avenge whoever is against Christ Jesus/Anti-Christ.
I quote Luke 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Unquote.

When we restrain ourselves from the divisive tactics of the evil the faithful believer will reap the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

I quote Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Unquote.

Mr Joe Gonsalves, I fully agree with you. Despite his honesty, sincerity, dedication and hard work, the tenure of Archbishop Bernard Moras was a troubled one. He did face enormous problems. But I feel most of his problems were because he did not have enough able, competent and committed priests to run the Archdiocese or entrust pastoral responsibilities, which perhaps explains why he chose to take up the burden on himself rather than delegate. With investigation into the murder of Fr K J Thomas, Rector of St Peter's Pontifical Seminary, in which 2 priests, who were part of the Kannada activists and opponents within the Archdiocese and the noose tightening on most of the other religious and lay leaders of these so-called ``Kannada activites" by whatever name, they may call themselves, the Archbishop perhaps feels emboldened that he can solve the language issue by finding a solution acceptable or satisfactory to all linguistic groups. Whatever may be the reason, if an amicable solution can be found, surely the Archdiocese can become more dyanamic. Wishing all the best to the Archdiocese of Bangalore and may wiser counsel prevail on the members of the Senate!

Kannada is the official language of Karnataka and it must be given prime importance and masses in Kannada should be made mandatory in all churches.
But having said that, since we live in a cosmopolitan world, tolerance should be given to other languages too.... In Bangalore Archdiocese, the majority are Tamils followed by Konkani speaking Kanndigas, Malyalis, etc. In Chikmagalur, Mangalore and Udupi dioceses the majority are Konkani speaking Kanndigas. I'm purposely using the term "Konkani speaking Kanndigas" since I'm hurt as much as many other Mangaloreans in Karnataka, that some fanatics in the church supported by a section of priests, who all come from a Telugu background and other outfits being involved in creating chaos in the Churches in the name of Language. These migrants from Andhra since 70 odd years, have the audacity to tell us Mangaloreans who are born and brought up in Karnataka and having our roots here since 300 odd years, to migrate to Goa.
We Mangaloreans use Kannada in our script for conversing. Great sons of Kannada like Kuvempu, Karanth, Karnad, URA etc are all from the belt influenced by Konkani speaking Kannadigas. Infact even so many composition of Kannada hymns, prayers and books were the writings of Mangaloreans. The First version of the Kannada Bible also is by a Mangalorean. So when we Mangaloreans have contributed so much to Kannada and we have the highest regard for Kannada, I question the credentials of these Telugu speaking fanatics to dare us about our roots and our love for our Kannada. Yes we love our mother tongue Konkani, but that does'nt mean we are against Kannada as portrayed by these outfit people.
I openly challenge any of these outfit members to write, speak and read Kannada better than the Mangaloreans on any given subject.
To sum it up, lets live and let live. Languages are used to communicate and unite people together and not to create hatred as is the agenda of these 'Balagas' and Outfits existing in out Churches.

      then what else ?
conversion in name of evangulization only increases baptized catholic population in number & & not practicing Catholics .As in USA 80% of 26% catholic population is baptized (only on record)Catholics & not practicing.same is story with indian 1.7% Catholics are only on baptism record & not in practice or spirit. This is also partly due to ,our leaders need number of conversion to justify `fund/donation ` expenses.as in govt.of india subsidy scheme (5 lakh crore/anum)87% fund is looted by authority & similar passion exists in the name of poor Catholics by authority (70% dalit Catholics controlled by 5 dalit bishops). All PPC`s are `fixed in- directly.LOT MORE SKELETONS IN STORE & WE JUST ATTENDING LANGUAGE ANGLE IS NOT REAL REMEDY BUT A PATCH UP ATTEMPT AGAIN

We were all happy together during the regime of Bishop Thomas Pothakamoori during which all the people of God gather together as one flock. The trouble erupted only after the induction of Simon Lourdusamy of Pondichery as the bishop of Bengaluru. Had he adopted the same policy of his predecessor it would have been nice. But he made Tamil as the only language of Liturgy and forced us all to recite prayers in Tamil written in Kannada script. This brought the inherent Telugus, Thigulas (some priests claim that Thigulas are Tamilians but it is a dialect of Kannada), Konkanis and Malayalees together under one umbrella called Kannada to fight against the Tamil atrocity. Even we are prevented to do the last rites as well as funeral mass in our language even though we brought our priests. Since then the fight is on and unfortunately opportunist aliens are ruling us. As Bengaloreans and more as Kannadigas we welcome to accommodate everyone who comes to us but eventually we are ill-treated by the same guests. The clever Malayalees have built the Churches of their own and Konkanis have better pasteurs. Ironically Kannada being the link language has been ill-treated for decades and Kanndigas are treated like anti-Christians.

Remember we believe in the same Christ that you do, and we pray him “Nimma Raajya Barali”. It even happened to me and my wife while we were to attend a first holy communion ceremony of our friend’s daughter at Derebail Church in Mangaluru that certain people surprised to know that we too are Christians because our dialogue was in Kannada.
Bengaluru is now filled with all language people and it goes by the majority 99 sheep. We are the lost and neglected sheep. No point in teaching our Children that Christ is born in the 25th midnight because they cannot understand the mixture of four languages being orated in the mass. Either Xmas or Easter it is for the people who are in majority who enjoy them in their mother lands and also in a touring land like Bengaluru.

Its oblivious your concern about kannada Catholics being a kannada Catholic. When I visited Bangalore churches last year most of liturgical masses are holding in Kannada despite Kannada Christians in minority in the congregation. People like you not only oppose previous Bishop Simon Lourdusamy but also present day Arch Bishop Bernad Moras(Konkani) because his mother tongue he is untouchable for Kannada Catholic Sanghas. The present Arch Bishop didn’t do any alternation in mass timings. but people of other language want to offer prayers in their own mother tongue which they can understand & communicate with God. But these so called Kannada Kristhara sangha wants to forcible induction of Kannada language on every sects in every church liturgies
Moreover, one of their demand is appointment of kannada Arch Bishop and kannada Priests all around Karnataka although there is very few Kannada Catholics in numbers all around Karnataka. The percentage of kannada Catholics in Karnataka not even 10% among all Catholics in the state. So how can they get Priests, Bishops to serve all over karnataka? There are so many Bishops, priests of ordains from Tamil, Konkani, Malayalam serve all over India & abroad , how many ordained Kannada priests are there to serve just in Bangalore?
Their baseless allegation against church property, Bishops, demands not tolerable and also there no sympathies for fairy tales here
