Karunanidhi turns 91


Chennai, June 3 (IANS): Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi turned 91 Tuesday.

As is his usual practice on birthdays, Karunanidhi paid floral tributes at the memorial to DMK founder and former chief minister C.N. Annadurai.

State Governor K. Rosaiah sent his greetings to Karunanidhi. Senior party officials greeted him at his residence.

Party men celebrated the occasion across the state by distributing sweets.

Karunanidhi entered politics as a student activist at the age of 14. A well-known playwright and screenwriter in Tamil cinema, he has also authored dozens of books and plays.

He took charge of the DMK after Annadurai's death in 1969.
