IT industry welcomes Telangana

Hyderabad, June 2 (IANS): The information technology sector Monday welcomed formation of a separate Telanana state and hoped that the new government will give further impetus and bring in clarity on industry related policies.

Top executives of various IT firms hoped that both the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will take steps to ensure industrial and economic prosperity.

"The IT industry hopes that the new government will bring in clarity on industry related policies such as taxation, single window clearances and introduce incentives for startups," said Suman Reddy, vice president and managing director, Pegasystems.

Stating that Hyderabad continues to be one of the preferred destinations, he said a larger share of growth was expected to return to the city.

"The development of growth corridors in both regions will also help attract investments that are currently stalled or are being diverted to other states. Industrial development to bring in growth and investments should be the primary agenda for the new governments of both regions."

B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, executive chairman, Cyient Limited said the two Telugu-speaking states would have friendly relations.

Murali Bukkapatnam, president, The Indus Entrepreneurs' (TiE) Hyderabad chapter suggested that the Telangana government should take Research Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) programme to boost research and fund innovations to the next level. He also stressed the need for creating more industrial corridors and clusters beyond Hyderabad.

"Hyderabad is the second largest city for IT industry in India and this momentum will continue. The ORR (outer ring road) and the planned peripheral ring road will render many of the districts around Hyderabad to be very effective satellite extensions to Hyderabad. This will enable a large interconnected swathe of a region that can be an extended IT Hub," said Ramesh Loganathan, vice president and managing director, Progress Software.

Debasis Chatterji, CEO, Netxcell Limited, hoped that said both the states will flourish with growth due to ample opportunities. He hoped that the new governments will restore positive sentiment amongst the industry.
