Diesel prices hiked by 50 paise per litre

New Delhi, Jun 1  (PTI) Diesel prices were today hiked by 50 paise a litre, excluding state levies, the second increase in rates three weeks.

The monthly hike in price came after several rounds discussions that the new Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held with state-owned oil firms on continuing with the reform initiated by the UPA government.

The announcement of the hike gave clear indications that the BJP government will continue with reforms of the previous Congress regime.

The UPA had in January 2013 decided to raise diesel prices in small doses of upto 50 paise every month till such time that the subsidy on nation's most consumed fuel is eliminated.

The hikes, effective from midnight tonight, are excluding state sales tax or VAT and actual increase will be higher and will vary from city to city, the oil companies announced.

Diesel price in Delhi will be hiked by 57 paise after including taxes, to Rs 57.28 per litre, while it will cost Rs 65.84 a litre in Mumbai as against Rs 65.21 at present.

Price of diesel were last hiked on May 13 when rates went up by Rs 1.09 a lite, excluding local levies. That hike which translated into Rs 1.22 in Delhi after including VAT, made up for rate hikes for two months as government deferred rates in April due to general elections.

Before today's increase, diesel prices had risen by a cumulative Rs 9.55 a litre in 15 instalments since January 2013.

"Even after the current increase, under recovery (loss) on retail diesel shall stand at Rs 2.80/litre," Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest oil firm, said in a statement announcing the hike.

Besides diesel, the oil firms are losing Rs 32.87 a litre on kerosene and Rs 432.50 on LPG (per cylinder).

"For the year 2014-15, the Corporation is expected to incur under-recovery of around Rs 53,600 crore on sale of three sensitive products (Industry around Rs 101,700 crore)," the statement said.

You are asking why BJP Govt. can not do it!!
Man (not Mann) Modi|BJP Government has just come in. Public Transport System is not a child's play. Give Modi\BJP ample time they may act upon it and it will be beneficial to every one and save fuel used by individuals by refraining using their own transport.
Easy connectivity for commuters to use public transport is a must which will make commuters use less and less of their own vehicles.

S.Shetty: I think we just cannot compare Hongkong's Public TS to India's but what you meant does make very good sense.

    Shettre,
You might not have seen 6 decades. But I have seen.Since then, I have seen real poverty. The people I had seen living without a days meal, clothing, shelter, education, today are leading a posh life at the blessings of Cong. Govt availing all the facilities under the Govt schemes.Complete eradication may take few more decades. With your party governance it will extend further. Your party struggled 6 decades to win the elections. This was the outcome of the fake promises and false allegations adopted during the campaign period.(Anti propaganda).Leading a sophisticated life with gulf earned money you may feel Indians are poor. Were you so much concerned about the poor, the amount spent for election could have been utilized for the benefit of the poor. Now who will bear all this burden. The public, and the people as you said poor will remain poor. They are the ultimate sufferers. This is an obstacle for Garibee Hatao. At this rate Garib will remain garib and Ameer people like you will remain Ameer.
Since 1970's I have seen how my THATHA Poojary has struggled to bring up the down trodden. Can you name a single person in your party from DK who has worked like him.He has remained faithful in one party, supporting them during their good and bad times.
Regarding property tax I will write an essay and post it to you separately.Plenty of Beef available in Shj. Enjoy.

Reducing the Povert cut off to 25 rs per day is not removing poverty. Only you people may buy this(1 rupee 10 golibaje available in bejai, 5 rupees 10 dose available in perinje etc). In six decades you may have seen some people who because of Congress reservations & acts such as land reforms, snatched once property and gave it to others just for the sake of votes. If you have seen people making money, I have seen more people that that who once lived lavish life have come to streets today. My house 50 years back which once served more than 50 people food at a time, but today I am slogging in gulf to make my living after loosing our agriculture land thanks to congress votebank politics. Your congress politics is only snatching from one who has less voted and giving it to other whose family has more votes. Agriculture is totally killed in twin districts thanks to your congress. BJP has struggled from the scratch and reached this stage with people support and democracy, its not a party which hijacked a name Gandhi and his movement to be presided by outsiders. Its only because of Beef Politics today your party has been reduced to route no 44 (Statebank To Ullal)state. In 2019 I hope it fares better than Statebank to Kunjathbai No 13 or State bank to Kodikal Route no 1.

My understanding is that Oil & Gas of India are state resources and not belong to private companies. The price control should be given to the Government and not by the private companies. I checked one of the video of Late Rajiv dixit ji (v=aCNwx9SEbGs), he says that the tax collected by Govt. for 1 liter petrol is almost 500%! The actual cost petrol is around Rs.8 per liter, whereas Govt. puts tax around 42 rs!

He also made fake promises to the people about decrease the price, 370 section, Unique civil code etc. But slowly slowly he will also realize the fact. NDA government is bunch of liars and cheaters. Dear Lingappa,

your right "'Khangress' increased every week Petrol and Diesel price" that is why Indians are not happy with congress now the time is change before election BJP promised us they will "decrease" the price where was congress hiked and they promise us to they will defiantly do that once they formed Govt.
But now what? forget congress ask question to BJP to whom they said "acche din ane wale hai"? for Indians? or Adani/Ambani/Birla or RSS?

Back in 2013 : MP Ananth Kumar also raised the issue of rising fuel prices and blamed the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for not being able to manage the economy properly. "Unfortunate that the UPA govt under Congress is raising the petrol and diesel prices every day," he said.

Though India is drilling for crude oil in various parts like gujarat, assam, rajasthan, lakshwadeep with more than 10000 wells that means after drilling each well has the capacity to pump 100 barrels of crude oil in a minute. So lets ask govt where are the oils going from the country and why are we importing it from Africa.

Actual cost of crude oil and extraction cost 1 Barrel= 102$ and extraction cost 1$ per barrel be it Petrol, diesel, kerosene. and 1 bitter truth most of the major drilling contract is held by Reliance, Secondly Cairn energy, and atlast its our govt run ONGC.

What will end faster, blame game or life?
Who has created the mess on surface transport?
How many pilots are there in a flight and drivers in train/bus?
How many drivers/riders are on roads by running vehicles, individually?
How much area has been occupied by vehicles on roads and vehicles?
What is the demand for transport services how is supply position?
How to control ego, selfishness, competition and comparison to reduce fuel price?
How many vehicles we feed by keeping millions of people hungry and thirsty?
How much we are paying to import fuel, unhealthy pollutions and mounting costs?
Why we carry and move the millions of tons of weight on wheels like infants?
Why not we can use the huge dead weight only wheels as a powerful pushing force?
Is there anyone, who is seriously looking for solution, which can reduce the fuel consumption, eradicate pollutions and reduce costs of transport?
If yes, we have solution with the implementation of a simple concept change, which can rectify a silly (but grave) error which was committed by a couple of century ago, which we have been gracefully follow even today?
If we wish, we can enjoy a rapid automobile revolution like the mobile technology.

What are the significant reasons for depreciating rupee?
One of prime reasons is our fiscal deficit (difference between revenue and expenditure). The fiscal deficit for the year 2011-2012 stood at Rs 5,21,980 and it is targeted at Rs 5,13,590 crores for the 2012-2013. This huge deficit is primarily because of subsidy offered on food, fertilizer and petroleum. The oil subsidy for the year 2012-2013 is estimated to be Rs 43,580 crores. But we project the losses suffered by OMCs for the current year, this subsidy will come out to be Rs 1,14,000crores.
Now if the prices of oil products are not increased, the deficit will keep on increasing further impacting our economy. An increase in price will result into fall in demand which means that fewer dollars will have to be paid for the oil imports, leading to lower trade deficit which will in turn lead to release of pressure on rupee-dollar rate.
As the saying goes “Good economics is bad politics and vice versa”, Modi has to decide whether he is good at politics or good at economics.

When I was working with Voltas Mumbai and our Company was doing MEP works for “Chek Lap Kok” Airport Project at Hong Kong, our Management was ready to give Company Car to those eligible Officers and Managers but they excluded Fuel, Car Parking, Vehicle Tax and Registration costs. Believe me none of our Officers and Managers were ready to take Personal Cars except our Project Director whose costs was borne by Company. People says no way we can compare the Public Transport System of Hong Kong to any other Countries in the World but if we improve our Public Transport System in our Country too, I think fuel increase burden will be reduced to certain extent
