India bids for World Senior Badminton Championships


New Delhi, May 21 (IANS): The Badminton Association of India (BAI) Wednesday bid for the 2017 World Senior Championships.

"We have bid for the 2017 World Senior Championships. India is capable of hosting any badminton event of any magnitude," BAI president Akhilesh Das Gupta told IANS.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is currently seeking bids for the tournament and the deadline for applications is Oct 31.

The prestigious biennial event was last held at Ankara in 2013. All five categories of the sport -- men’s singles and doubles, and women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles -- are held in the age category of 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 65 and 70.

Das Gupta added that India is also ready to host the World Mixed Team Championship for the Sudirman Cup.
