Four Chinese workers dead in Vietnam riots

Beijing, May 20 (IANS): Four workers employed in the Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) were killed in the anti-China riot at a construction site in Vietnam May 14, the company said Tuesday.

The riot occurred at an MCC site in Vietnam's Ha Tinh province, leaving 130 people killed or injured, including 23 severely injured, Xinhua cited a company statement as saying.

The statement said that 307 workers, including the injured, were evacuated by plane Sunday to Chengdu, capital of China's south-western Sichuan province.

Another 3,567 arrived in Haikou, capital of southern Hainan province, Tuesday by ships.

Violence erupted in Vietnam after China made renewed territorial claims over the Paracel Islands, which Vietnam insists are part of its territory.
