Bhubaneswar, Jul 4: Inclement weather and a deep depression over the Orissa coast forced President A P J Abdul Kalam to cancel his visit to Berhampur in South Orissa on Monday.

The President, who arrived here last night, was scheduled to visit Berhampur Monday morning to attend platinum jubilee celebration of the City High School.

He was also to inaugurate silver jubilee celebration of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Acharaya Prafulla Chandra Ray Memorial Cancer Chemotherapeutic Research unit at Mahuda, 8 kms from Berhampur.

During his three-hours visit to the Silk City, Dr Kalam was scheduled to address a national symposium on ''Drug Molecules: Discovery and Delivery System'' before returning to the state capital in the afternoon.

Official sources said the option of Dr Kalam going by road to Berhampur was not feasible.

Dr Kalam is likely to visit Berhampur on Tuesday, the sources said.
