Ukraine's Kuznetsov wins modern pentathlon gold


Budapest, May 19 (IANS): Ukraine's Anton Kuznetsov won the boys' individual title at the 2014 Modern Pentathlon Youth A World Championships here.

Kuznetsov finished with an overall score of 1,139 points, earning 238 points in fencing for second place and 341 in swimming for seventh place. Despite his 21st place in the combined event, he won the title with the top overall score Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Russia's Alexander Lifanov took silver medal with an overall score of 1,129. Bronze medal went to Mexico's Luis Cruz on 1121.

Australia's Max Esposito came in fourth with Mexico's Ricardo Vera fifth. Hungary's Richard Bereczki placed sixth as Lithuania's Dovidas Vaivada placed seventh. Brendan Anderson from the United States was the eighth.

The boys' team gold medal went to Mexico. Ukraine won silver while Hungary got bronze. Russia and South Korea placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
