Title and relegation to be decided on dramatic final weekend in Spain

Madrid, May 16 (IANS): The Spanish BBVA Primera Liga season comes to a conclusion this weekend with the title and relegation to be decided.

The outcome of the title will be resolved by 8 p.m. (local time) Saturday after Barcelona entertain Atletico Madrid, reports Xinhua.

Barca need to win in front of a packed Camp Nou Stadium, while a draw is good enough for an Atletico side who are unbeaten in five previous meetings with the Catalans this campaign.

Barca could have Brazilian striker Neymar available again after a foot injury, while Diego Costa has recovered from a muscle problem to take his place in the starting 11.

It will be 90 minutes of tension in which Barca will hope to recapture the form which has deserted them in recent weeks, while Atletico have to maintain the level which has brought them so far this season.

The relegation issue, which will be settled Sunday, is far more complicated with several sides involved in the struggle to avoid two relegation places.

Osasuna go into their last game of the season knowing they have to win their home game against already relegated Real Betis and hope that results elsewhere go their way.

Osasuna know that Betis are still capable of causing problems given that the team from Seville fought back from a goal down three times last weekend to defeat Valladolid 4-3.

That result leaves Valladolid in the relegation zone and with a home game against fourth from bottom Granada.

One thing that is certain about the game is that the loser will be relegated, but a draw could condemn both Valladolid and Granada and a win for Valladolid would not ensure their survival if Osasuna beat Betis.

Sunday afternoon promises to be one of fans listening to radios in the stands and listening to results from other grounds to see just where their side stands.

The remaining games have nothing at stake with the main point of interest being whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo will take a risk on his hamstring injury to play for Real Madrid against Espanyol a week ahead of the Champions League final to try and score the goal he needs to end the season as top scorer in Europe.
