Russian rider wins 2014 Tour of Azerbaijan cycling race


Baku, May 12 (IANS): Ilnur Zakarin from Russian's Rusvelo cycling race team won the overall title of 2014 Tour of Azerbaijan which concluded Sunday.

Justin Jules (La Pomme Marseille, France) won the final stage, Xinhua reported.

"It was a very tough day and a hard circuit," said Zakarin. "The team protected me in the stage and in fact in the whole race. My first thanks go to my teammates, who earned the victory."

The King of the Mountains jersey went to Linus Gerdemann (MTN Qhubeka), best young rider was Robert Power (National Team Australia), the sprint jersey was awarded to Vitaly Buts (Kolss, Ukraine), and MTN Qhubeka was the best team overall.

The race consisted of 5 stages and involved some 150 riders representing 25 teams from 33 nations. The race passed seven Azerbaijani regions and ended up in the capital May 11.
