Kumar Vishwas says his family told to leave Amethi

Lucknow, May 6 (IANS): Kumar Vishwas, who is Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Amethi, Tuesday alleged that his family had been asked to leave the constituency or face forceful eviction.

According to sources, district police officials late Monday reached the rented accommodation of the AAP leader and asked his wife and other relatives along with the children to leave the constituency.

An official told IANS that this was in line with norms which mandates all non-registered voters, campaigners and supporters of a candidate to leave the constituency after the campaigning has come to an end and ahead of balloting.

Vishwas tweeted that police had threatened to evict his wife, sister and others from their house mid-night. He also dared the authorities to do something similar to Congress campaigner Priyanka Vadra and her supporters.

Senior Election Commission (EC) officials were apprised of the matter late Monday night after which Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Umesh Sinha is said to have taken a "view on the matter".

Poll panel sources said the district administration was within its rights to take such action but have been asked to be polite, "keeping sensitivities in mind".

Amethi is witnessing a triangular battle between Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, BJP's television actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani and AAP's Kumar Vishwas.

While Vishwaas has been camping in the high-profile constituency for the last four months, Smriti Irani is also giving sleepless nights to her political opponents by travelling in the countryside.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while addressing an election meeting in Gauriganj Monday had called Irani her younger sister.

Worried at a surging opposition, Sonia Gandhi recently addressed her first election rally in Amethi after a gap of 10 years.

Amethi goes to polls May 7.

Reason comes to light only when all is in open (when there are press/TV guys around)...

Kumar Vishwas indeed had the first mover advantage in Amethi when he started campaigning 4 months back, but with Congress getting aggressive thru Bianca & Smriti coming into fray, its become a goner for Vishwas. AAP also being the B team of Congress now needs to introspect very deep post the May 16th results. Its highly probable they would get only about 3 seats, all in Delhi, & come 2nd in few seats in Haryana. Its death knell for AAP whish had a dream debut in Delhi Assembly not too long ago. As regards Kejriwala & Vishwas, its deposit loss for sure!

The law should be equal for all. The police must also explain what measures they have taken to send back Congress, BJP workers belonging to non-Amethi areas... They can't keep a blind eye on other players..... Election commission - can you please take suo moto cognigense for the same and vacate Amethi from all non-amethi people irrespective of their association with Congress, BJP or AAP..????

Internal Reports says KUWAR VISHWAS will win in Amethi. If he stays till May 16th in Amethi, the hired goons of buffoon will attack Vishwas and his family due to frustrations.

It is good that police have taken precautionary measures.

What's new in that ?. In the year 2006 by-election in Chamundeshwari where Siddaramayya contested,EC officer Raymond Peter asked then Chief Minister Kumaraswamy to leave the constituency, or face forceful eviction. Respecting the EC Kumaraswamy left the constituency in the night!!!!!!.

    Dear Mr. Kumar,

Obviously people of Amethi lost your Viswhwas/believing in you.

Therefore work for Kejriwal in Varanasi and stop your Bakwaas.
