Three Bodo insurgents killed in Assam

Guwahati, April 30 (IANS): Three Bodo insurgents were Wednesday killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam's Sonitpur district, police said.

The three cadres belonged the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) faction opposed to peace talks with the government.

The gunfight took place at Jingia Tinisuti village, police said.

Three pistols, a grenade and incriminating documents were also found.

"We received a tip-off that some NDFB anti-talk faction militants were moving in the area. A joint team of CRPF's Cobra battalion and Assam Police carried out a search today morning (Wednesday)," said Sonitpur Superintendent of Police Sanjyukta Parashar.

"During the search operation, the militants attacked the security forces leading to a gun battle. Three cadres were gunned down while the rest escaped," she said.

The NDFB's anti-talk faction led by I.K. Songbijit has a strong presence in Sonitpur and in four districts under the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) in Assam.
