Sporting beat Belenenses to qualify for Champions League


Lisbon, April 20 (IANS): Ten-man Sporting Lisbon beat Belenenses 1-0 in the Portuguese capital here to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Midfielder Adrien Silva scored the only goal Saturday night in the 52nd minute with a penalty, reports Xinhua.

Sporting defender Marcos Rojo received a red card in the 80th minute for a foul on Rojas.

With the win, Sporting have secured second place in the Portuguese league and are on 66 points, four points less than Benfica.

Benfica play Olhanense Sunday night and could end up winning the Portuguese league title.
