Fans begin collecting World Cup tickets

Rio de Janeiro, April 19 (IANS): Fans began picking up World Cup tickets when FIFA's venue ticketing centres opened in 10 host cities.

Local officials said fans queued for up to two hours Friday to collect tickets purchased as far back as August last year, reports Xinhua.

Of the World Cup's 12 host cities, only Porto Alegre and Brasilia did not begin distributing tickets due to administrative delays. Both cities are expected to make tickets available in early May.

FIFA says more than 2.5 million tickets have already been allocated for the June 12-July 13 event.

A final batch of about 200,000 tickets were made available on a first-come, first-served basis April 15.
