Krakow's Olympic bid committee appoints new head

Warsaw, April 17 (IANS): Krakow's 2022 Winter Olympics bid committee Thursday appointed Warsaw's deputy mayor as the new head after Jagna Marczulajtis-Walczak resigned amid a scandal last week.

Magdalena Sroka's appointment came during an extraordinary meeting as her predecessor stepped down Saturday after her husband was alleged to have offered money to the media in return for favourable stories about the bid, reports Xinhua.

Krakow is competing against Beijing, Oslo, Almaty and Lviv for the 2022 Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide on the short-list of candidate cities in July and select the host city July 31, 2015.
