Youth World Boxing Championships begin


Sofia (Bulgaria), April 15 (IANS): The AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, the sole qualifying event for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics, have begun here.

A record 606 athletes - 506 men and 100 women - from 105 countries and regions have been registered for the championships with 175 reserve boxers, reports Xinhua.

The finals of the tournament, which started Monday, will be held next Tuesday and Thursday.

Among men, the top-6 ranked boxers in each weight category will qualify for the Youth Olympics while among women, the top-5 will.
