Spark in Delhi Metro coach causes panic, no fire reported

New Delhi, April 11 (IANS): A spark in a Delhi Metro coach Friday caused panic and passengers were deboarded on the track between two Metro stations, an official said, but clarified no fire was reported.

Passengers were deboarded between the Ghitorni and Arjangarh stations when the train was on its way from Jehangirpuri towards the Huda City Centre station.

"Some passengers deboarded a Metro train at 1.04 p.m. today (Friday) between Ghitorni and Arjangarh stations. Prima facie, as per reports received, some sparking/flashing had taken place in the rear car which caused panic among passengers," a Delhi Metro statement read.

"On checking, it was confirmed that there was no fire," added the statement.

Metro officials confirmed the train has been withdrawn from service until further checking.

"The Metro has started functioning normally from 1.35 p.m.," added the statement.

Pictures of people standing on the tracks were uploaded on the micro blogging site Twitter.

Officials said five fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
