England striker Jay Rodriguez to miss World Cup

London, April 8 (IANS): Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez will miss England's World Cup campaign due to an injury that will rule him out for at least six months.

The 24-year-old had a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament at Manchester City Saturday and will now have to undergo a surgery to repair it, BBC reported Monday.

Rodriguez had hoped to be part of Roy Hodgson's squad in Brazil after winning his first cap last year.

"Everything will be done to deliver a speedy recovery," said Southampton director Les Reed.

"Jay is naturally disappointed, but is determined to get back playing for Saints as soon as possible.

The former Burnley striker made his first, and so far only, senior England appearance in a friendly against Chile last November.
