Yuvraj Singh should not be singled out, says father Yograj

Chandigarh, April 7 (PTI): Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj came out in defence of his son, saying the left-handed batsman, who struggled for his 11 runs off 21 balls, should not be singled out for India's loss in the ICC World T20 final.

"Yuvraj should not be singled out," Yograj said when asked if his son consuming 21 deliveries was the main reason behind India loosing the title clash against Sri Lanka at Mirpur.

Even as Virat Kohli struck his fourth half century of the tournament with yet another superb effort but Lankan bowlers applied brakes on a struggling Yuvraj which certainly hampered the scoring rate to a large extent.

Yuvraj turned out to be a disaster as he looked completely out of sorts which even frustrated the in-form batsman at the other end. The last four overs produced only 19 runs due to Yuvraj's failure to get big hits.

But Yograj said when a team loses, there is widespread criticism from all quarters.

"When we loose their is criticism from all sides. Ups and downs are part of life and part of this game as well," he said.

Referring to the lean patch Yuvraj has gone through in recent times, Yograj said, "When a player some times goes through lean patch, the state of mind becomes such that he starts thinking if he does not make runs he may be out of the team or the team may lose."

"When West Indies lost the 1983 World Cup to India, Sir Viv Richards went to Indian dressing room and congratulated the team saying they played better cricket and deserved to win," he said, adding that the sportsman's spirit in the game was more important.

He felt Yuvraj should play more domestic cricket and suggested that he should also spend some days with his father to receive coaching tips.

They say Cricket is a great leveler.
However, for Yuvraj I think this particular game could well be a 'Demolisher'. He will be remembered
for this 'debacle' more than any of his other exploits.
Cricket is a team game after all,you win some-you lose some...but common sense and planning should be evident in all games you play....130 for 3 at the end of 19.5 overs...means nobody was using his 'brains' in the Indian Camp! How much is Duncan Fletcher paid by the way???

Yuvaraj is the main culprit for Indias disaster. Secondly Dhoni failed himself and not promoted inform Raina. What is the use for saving wicket in last 5 overs.

Last 5 overs Lanka bowled really well.

not only Yuvraj, even Dhoni and Kohli struggled in the last 4 overs.

Kohli played 8 balls and scored 6 runs

Dhoni played 7 balls and scored 4 runs

Yuvraj played 8 balls and scored 6 runs.

Now tell me who is responsible for the low total????

    Dear Felix,
Statistics will not tell u the story how the match proceeded.. When one batsmen spoils the game, it almost spoils the mood of every Players, U could see the frustration in dressing room, anger through Fans when he was struggling to connect the ball.. There was no need to play such a defensive game when 8 wickts in hand, scoring 2 runs in 15th over, 3 runs in 17th over and 5 runs 19th overs, It sucks the Momentum.. U will loose the Mood on game.. Its like Now all over.. what is the use of hitting the ball... Mental strength is very very important in every game, And that was spoiled by one man.. He came to bat soon after 10th over, but never tried to hit a single ball.. This was most shocking..
Now I feel, Had Yuvi was not got out against SA when 40 required in 4 overs, India surely would not have reached to the finals.. Thats all we can say at this moment...

    Dear Krishnaraj Salian sir,
With all respect, I agree to what you said, everyone watching the match were frustrated. But not to forget Yuvi has won many matched for India. and he didnt perform well yesterday, or throughout the tournament, but its not sportsmanship to blame one player for the loss, we need to support everyone equally may it be victory or loss.
People pelted stones at yuvi's residence, what is the necessity for it? did they build him a home when he scored 6 sixes in a over?
lets not blame anyone in the team. Meanwhile, lets support them for the coming 50-50 world cup!
Remember, every failure is a stepping stone to success...

Lets pray and hope India brings back the world cup in 2015!

    Felix,
In India people treat Cricket as their religion, Right from morning fans were waiting to see the grand finale, The way india reached to final as unbeaten side raised many hopes that india will surely win..
If India has lost even after scoring 160-165 runs, Probably no one would have blamed the team unless one particular bowler was charged for more runs like 50-60 runs in his quota. But, here it was clearly visible that only one player spoiled the entire game, and its not just a game but a World Cup for India.. it was not a simple match but a Grand Finale.. More over, India was not at the receiving end till 16th over, it was very well in Driver's seat.. Anyone could have predicted some Big shots coming up in last 4 overs. But it went otherway around.
It was so so Frustrating for everyone, and it made most of the cricket lovers using abusive language on him, and switch off the TV after realized they scored only 130, which was not at expected to be.
I agree, he has won many matches for india, But its a Human mentality that u do 100 good work, but one BAD Work done by u will evade all ur goodwork.. Similalry, This innings of Yuvi will not be Forgotten any Cricket lovers for long long time.. Bcoz it is coz of him India lost a WC...

Why we people not accepting the Lankans bowled well? There were wide yorkers which is something new for the cricket. This discipline by the Lankan bowlers make them win the match. Also, even if indians scored some more 25 runs, lankans would have chased them. They still had 12 deliveries to bowl.

I donot agree with u, It is all about Mind game and Momentum, When 8 wickets in hand, and Momentum was building really good for india after 16 runs scored in 16th over, Lankans bowlers as well as captain were in tremendous pressure, coz Kohli was looking so very good. It makes bowlers mentally weak, there by bowling wrong line and length and even Wide balls.. So one could expect min 50 runs in last 4 overs that would given about 160 to chase which would have been very good total. And inturn, when the total score is good, even our bowlers get mental strength to bowl them well and put their batmen under pressure, and lankans while keeping run rate in mind, and looses wicket on the other side it put lot of tensions on their side as well as it builds Confidence on indian players that We Can WIn this match.. This " WE CAN WIN " was not reflected in indian side ystrday when they came to bowl.
Its a Result of one Nonsense Batsmen..

2011 WC Hero turns out to be Villain in 2014.. A f#$#$# Cricket from the Stupid player.. When the Momentum was building very well, this idiot spoiled the game by not giving the strike to Kohli who was playing so very well.. This man was not even attempting for big shots, its not that he tried to hit and miss, very painful to say that he has not tried at all.. Srilanka was under tremendous tense when Kohli scored 16 runs in 16th over to reach 111-2, so with 8 wickets in hand and only 4 overs to go, one could easily predict india will definitely reach above 160 mark , It is coz of this Fool who spoiled that momentum and spoiled the WC for india.. There is no one else to be blamed other than this Idiot...
He might have won many matches for india, But, MY Respect for him shattered after this match....

When Yuvi hit 6 sixes in England, the father came out with so much praise for his son....He was in media/TV channels, now why when his son failed he is blaming others... I feel Yuvi was playing to protect his wicket without scoring. He was playing T20 like test match?????

It is very clear that Yurvraj was a misfit for the team from the beginning. Even his 60 runs in one stray case cannot absolve the ors mistake of including him in the team. It was proved by Yuvraj even in the last match that he cannot score. Luckily he got out fast. Should have been removed from the team without any mercy. Humanitarian grounds such as recovery from cancer, etc. cannot work for a person who is so inconsistent. At least learn from the mistake now. For the very same reason, he was not preferred by any team during the last IPL also.

Miscalculation by Captain Dhoni. Raina should have been sent instead of Yuvaraj in such a critical stage. Everybody knows that Yuvaraj is not in form.

I was wondering how Captain Dhoni sent an out form Yuvaraj in such critical stage.

A poor decision by the Captain.

Because, when Dhoni takes decision he firms on that. By his luck 75%of his decisions worked in favour of him and wins the matches for India. This is one of the 25% decisions which proved bad, which went against.
