Hyderabad: Class IX student murdered over Facebook post

Hyderabad, Mar 30 (Deccan Chronicle) : Angered by Gotte Praveen’s Facebook post, a group of minors allegedly beat him to death on Saturday.

Police said the victim, Gotte Praveen, a Class IX student of Nagarjuna Model School at Hasthina-puram, was attacked by a student of Dilsukhnagar Public School, and some of his friends. Praveen suffered a grievous injury to his head and died.

Praveen was apparently logging into FB under an assumed name; police said they can figure out what transpired over the Facebook only after picking up the accused.

According to the police, Praveen and two of his friends, Anil and Jeshw-anth, had a running quarrel with the minors over posts on Facebook. “Praveen, Anil and Jeswanth were walking on the road when the six minors followed them on two bikes and accosted them at an isolated place in Sri Lakshminarayana Nagar. They picked up an argument and started beating the trio. Praveen received severe blows on his temple, while his friends were also injured. Praveen fell unconscious on the road,” said LB Nagar police inspector E. Srinivas Reddy.

Passersby and the locals rushed Praveen to Kamineni Hospitals, where he was declared brought dead. Praveen’s family had alleged the boy was murdered, but had not lodged a complaint till 11.30 pm. “Even if they don’t, we will have to register a murder case based on the external injuries on Praveen’s body and the family’s oral version,” concluded the inspector.
