Flamengo stumble against Bolivar in Copa Libertadores


La Paz, March 20 (IANS): Flamengo must win their final two group matches to advance to the Copa Libertadores football's second phase after a 0-1 loss to Bolivar.

Bolivia international striker Juan Carlos Arce converted a fifth-minute penalty for the hosts Wednesday after William Ferreira was scythed down by teenage defender Samir, reports Xinhua.

The result at the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz lifted Bolivar to third in Group 7, a point ahead of last-placed Flamengo.

The Brazilian giants need six points from their remaining matches against Ecuador's Emelec and Leon to progress to the knockout stage.

In other matches on Wednesday, Ronaldinho scored from the penalty spot in Atletico Mineiro's 1-1 home draw against Nacional Asuncion, Penarol overcame Arsenal de Sarandi 2-1, Newell's Old Boys drew 1-1 with Gremio and Leon routed Emelec 3-0.
