Junior women's hockey nationals in Mysore


New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): The fourth edition of the Hockey India Junior Women's National Championship, to be played in Mysore March 5-23, will see two new teams in Hockey Gangpur-Odisha and Vidarbha Hockey Association.

Overall 32 teams will be participating in the championship which will be played on league-cum-knockout basis at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Mysore.

The championship will be played in two phases in Divisions A and B. There will be 16 teams each competing in both divisions. Division B will be played March 5-13 and Division A March 15-23.

The inaugural match Division B shall be played between Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh in pool C March 5.

In division A, last year’s bronze medallist Jharkhand will take on Bengal in the opening match March 15 and the final will be played March 23.

Defending champions Haryana are placed in pool A with Tamil Nadu, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Rajasthan while Madhya Pradesh, runners-up in the third edition of the championship, are placed in pool B with Delhi, Karnataka and Bhopal. Defending champions Haryana will take on SAI in their first match.
