Mumbai, May 26: In an operation supervised by deputy chief minister R R Patil, the Crime Branch on Friday seized nearly 5 lakh litres of adulterated edible oil from number of godowns at Kurla.

A senior Mumbai Crime Branch official said that the culprits used to remove oil from the tins of reputed brands and adulterate it with ordinary palm oil or any other oil of cheaper variety.

Patil was present when police raided the godowns along with officials of the Food and Drugs Administration, sources said.

Although numbers of people have been detained in the operation, crime branch sources said that no one has been arrested yet.
