Trinidadian Sachin wins golf championship in Florida

Port St. Lucie (Florida), Feb 5 (IANS/CMC): Top Trinidad and Tobago golfer Sachin Kumar has topped the leaderboard at the South Florida PGA (SFPGA) Junior Championship.

Kumar captured the overall boys’ title by one shot at Sandpiper Golf Club at Club Med here. He struck a 2-under par 68 to consolidate his efforts on the final day of the two-day tournament to claim the Boys Overall 13-18 Division, dethroning defending champion Alberto Martinez, who had set the pace with an opening round 68.

Martinez fired a solid second round 74 but it proved not enough to hold off the charge from Kumar, who had fired a first round of 73. Kumar had a two-day total of 141.

The SFPGA Junior Tour is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls aged 11-18 and features some of South Florida’s most talented junior golfers.
