Botswana women to play Zimbabwe in friendly

Gaborone (Botswana), Jan 31 (IANS): The Botswana women's football team grouped here to prepare for a clash against Zimbabwe.

The team is preparing to play in the upcoming 11th African Women Championships to be staged in Namibia. Botswana Football Association (BFA) spokesperson Phakamile Kraai said the match is a qualification encounter for the championships, reported Xinhua.

"The technical department is working very hard to get the women prepare for the game," said Kraai.

The first leg will be played in a week's time at the Molepolole Sports Complex on the outskirts of Gaborone while the reverse has been scheduled for early March in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The championships will serve as a qualification tournament for the 2015 Canada FIFA World Cup with the top three teams going through.

If Botswana progress past Zimbabwe, a team that beat them 5-0 in December 2012, they will meet the winner of Zambia and Tanzania in the final qualifying round in May.
