Dortmund's Blaszczykowski to miss rest of season

Berlin, Jan 27 (IANS): Dortmund's Jakub Blaszczykowski will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, the German soccer club said.

Polish international and Dortmund midfielder Blaszczykowski tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an MRI scan revealed Sunday.

The midfielder suffered the injury during the 2-2 draw against Augsburg Saturday. Blaszczykowski will undergo a surgery in the coming days.

"Nothing can throw me back. I will do everything to return stronger than ever on the pitch," Blaszczykowski said.

He scored 27 goals in 184 appearances for Dortmund since 2007.

Blaszczykowski can expect to return in the summer break, according to the club's doctor Markus Braun.

Dortmund sit currently on third place, 14 points below front runner Bayern Munich.
