Moscow confirms 60 foreign heads to attend Sochi Olympics

Moscow, Jan 25 (IANS): About 60 foreign leaders confirmed they would attend the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, a Kremlin aide said.

"A very large number of top officials have given their consent (to attend the opening ceremony) - this is about 60," Yuri Ushakov told reporters Friday, reports Xinhua.

Leaders of China, Japan, Italy, heads of large international organisations and the United Nations are among those sixty, he said.

According to the Kremlin aide, US delegation has not sent their application to attend the Sochi Games.

Norwegian King Harald V and Prime Minister Erna Solberg confirmed Monday they would visit the Olympics.

The 22nd Winter Olympics will run Feb 7-23.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has Sunday described the boycott Olympics campaign by some western countries "a remnant of the old way of thinking."

Putin himself said last week he was going to visit several events during the upcoming Sochi Olympics though he did not know so far which exactly.
