Mumbai, May 17 (Wednesday, 12-15 am ): A special court here on Tuesday convicted Zahira Sheikh's mother Sehrunissa and sentenced her to suffer three months rigorous imprisonment, holding her guilty of giving false evidence during the retrial into the Best Bakery case here.
  
The court imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Sehrunissa, failure to pay which will entail a further 10 days rigorous imprisonment.
 
Pronouncing the verdict here, additional sessions judge Abhay Thipsay said the court had provided two opportunities to Sehrunissa to tell the truth. Yet, she had given false evidence.
  
The court, therefore, convicted her under Section 344 of the CrPC and sentenced her to suffer three months rigorous imprisonment together with a fine of Rs 500.
 
Thipsay observed that the accused had been tutored by somebody to give false statement and mislead the court.
 
The court, however, granted her a month to challenge the verdict in the upper court and was released on a personal bond.
