Elections at Paralympic Committee of India Friday


Bangalore, Jan 23 (IANS): The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has appointed Sports Authority of India deputy director Ajit Singh as government observer for the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) elections to be held here Friday.

London Paralympics 2012 silver medallist H.N. Girisha, IPC Athletics World Championship participant Devendra Jhajheria and Dronacharya award-winning coach Satyapal Singh are special invitees for this meeting where the future development programme will also be finalised.

International Paralymnpic Committee (IPC), to which PCI is affiliated, has directed that elections for the posts of office-bearers and executive committee be held at the meeting.

R. Radha, retired district and session judge, has been appointed returning officer.

Former India athlete and IRS official Rajesh Tomar is contesting to take over from Sultan Ahmed, MP and former Minister of Tourism, as PCI President. J Chandrashelar and SP Sangwan are contesting for Secretary General and Treasurer’s posts.
