Kiplagat targets world record at Barcelona Half marathon

Nairobi, Jan 22 (IANS): Kenya's Berlin marathon champion Florence Kiplagat will attack the Barcelona course Feb 16 aiming to set a new world record.

Kiplagat, who holds a personal best time of 1:06:38, which she set in 2012 Ostia City Half marathon race in Italy has set the focus on breaking the world record as part of her build up towards the London Marathon in April.

Speaking to Xinhua in Eldoret Tuesday, Kiplagat said she is training hard to improve on her speed and endurance ahead of the race.

"The world record is on my radar. I am planning to run a fast race. I had planned to break it last year in Ras Al Khaimah course in the United Arab Emirates but I was not lucky," she said.

"The focus is on running fast in Barcelona. I want to try and break the world record. But it is going to be tough on everyone and if I have a strong field, it will inspire me to run even faster," said Kiplagat.
