Mandeep named junior player of hockey world league final


New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS): India's Mandeep Singh was named Junior Player of the Tournament at the Hockey World League Final at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Saturday.

The 18-year-old led his side to a stunning 5-4 win over reigning Olympic champions and World No.1 Germany Friday.

Meanwhile, Dutch Robbert Kemperman was named Player of the Tournament and England's George Pinner was announced the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

Australia's penalty corner specialist Kieran Govers was given the Highest Goal scorer award for scoring six goals in the tourney.

The Netherlands beat New Zealand 7-2 to win the event while hosts India finished sixth.
