France's Despres wins 12th stage of motorcycle race in Dakar Rally

Santiago (Chile), Jan 18 (IANS): France's Cyril Despres won the 12th stage of the motorcycle race as part of the Yamaha team in the 2014 Dakar Rally.

Despres covered the 350-kilometre route, from Chile's east central city of El Salvador to the northern town of La Serena, in three hours, 58 minutes and 18 seconds, reports Xinhua.

In second place was Spain's Marc Coma (KTM team), trailing by two minutes and 17 seconds.

Coma, however, continues to be the overall leader of the motorcycle race with an almost two-hour advantage over teammate Jordi Viladoms who climbed to the second spot after Joan Barreda crashed.

Despres' win Friday put him in fourth place in the overall rankings, some four minutes behind the third place.
