'Sao Paulo eyeing Uruguay defender Pereira'

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 17 (IANS): Sao Paulo are seeking a loan deal for Inter Milan left-back Alvaro Pereira, the player's agent said.

The Uruguay international has made just two league starts for the Italian football club this season and is seeking regular playing time to make Oscar Tabarez's World Cup squad, reports Xinhua.

"Sao Paulo is one of the clubs that has been in contact," Pereira's agent Flavio Perchman told Radio Globo Thursday.

"He (Pereira) wants to arrive in form for the World Cup. At Inter he hasn't had consistent game time. We have to wait and be patient."

Gremio and at least one other Brazilian club are also reportedly interested in the 28-year-old.

Despite limited opportunities at the San Siro, Pereira was called up for Uruguay's World Cup qualifying playoffs against Jordan in November, which the Celeste won 5-0 on aggregate.
