Dakar Rally: Hussein wins ninth stage of quad race


Santiago, Jan 15 (IANS): Holland's Sebastian Hussein (Honda) won the ninth stage of the quad race in the 2014 Dakar Rally, between Calama and Iquique in the Chilean desert.

Hussein won the 422-km stage with a time of five hours, 46 minutes and one second, Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

Chile's Ignacio Casale (Yamaha) arrived in second place with a time of 6:10:59, followed by Poland's Rafal Sonik (Yamaha), with a time of 6:11:31.

Casale is the current overall leader of the quad race, with a total time of 45:50:48, followed by Uruguay's Sergio Lafuente (Yamaha) with a time of 46:13:27, and Sonik with a time of 46:37:16. Hussein is in fourth position with 48:58:39.

The 2014 Dakar Rally began Jan 5 in Argentina and concludes Jan 18 in the Chilean port of Valparaiso.
