Plushenko to retire after Sochi Olympics

St.Petersburg, Jan 11 (IANS): Olympic and World figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko confirmed that the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi will mark the end of his competitive career.

According to the local media, 31-year-old Plushenko, who won Olympic gold in 2006 and has long expressed a desire to coach after retiring, said he would like the chance to work with 18-year-old Japanese sensation Yuzuru Hanyu, reports Xinhua.

"He reminds me of myself at that age," Plushenko said Friday.

Plushenko also has an ice dancing tour, known as The Champions' Show, on his agenda at the end of the Sochi Olympics. The show will feature a host of world skating stars including Brian Joubert and Johnny Weir as well as Plushenko himself.
