Korea Open: Jwala-Ashwini lose as Indian challenge ends


Seoul, Jan 9 (IANS): The Indian challenge at the Korean Open Superseries badminton event ended Thursday when Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa lost in the women's doubles second round.

The unseeded duo lost to third seeds from Korea, Ye Na Jang and So Young Kim, 18-21, 12-21 in 40 minutes.

Later Thursday, Ashwini and her mixed doubles partner Tarun Kona went down to Germany's seventh seeds Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels 10-21, 15-21.

Singles players Kidambi Srikanth and R.M.V. Gurusaidutt lost in the first round Wednesday.
