Pironkova reaches first WTA final at Sydney


Sydney, Jan 9 (IANS): Bulgarian qualifier Tsevtana Pironkova has made her first WTA final after upsetting second seed Czech Petra Kvitova at the Apia International Sydney tennis tournament.

Pironkova ousted the Czech 6-4 6-3 Thursday to reach the final.

The 26-year-old Bulgarian will face German 5th seed Angelique Kerber in the final Friday.

Pironkova achieved her career-high ranking of No.31 in the world in 2010 and is best known for having made a semifinal at Wimbledon.
