Del Potro advances to Sydney International quarters

Sydney, Jan 8 (IANS): Top-seeded Argentine, Juan Martin del Portro defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut to move into the quarterfinals at Apia International Sydney 2014 Wednesday.

The highest-ranked Argentine fought back from a set down against Mahut before winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, reports Xinhua.

Del Potro, who is currently ranked World No.5, will next meet Czech veteran Radek Stepanek Thursday for a place in Friday's semifinals.

Stepanek ousted Spanish Albert Ramos 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5).
