Ex-hockey players to get free World League Final tickets


New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS): Hockey India (HI) Tuesday announced that former hockey Olympians and international players will get complimentary tickets for the World League Final to be held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Jan 10-18.

The former players need to get in touch with former India captain Ajit Pal Singh and HI selector R.P. Singh for the tickets.

HI secretary general Narinder Batra said it would be a privilege for them to invite all former internationals to witness the top teams of the world in action.

“Their presence will encourage the Indian team, which is ready for the challenge, and all the organisers of the tournament. Keeping in mind the immense contribution of former hockey Olympians and international players have made to our great game, HI continues to recognise their efforts,” Batra said Tuesday.

The tournament schedule is set with two pools of four teams each followed by the knockout matches. Pool A will feature Germany, England, New Zealand and India while Australia, Argentina, Belgium and Netherlands in Pool B.

The opening day Jan 10 will feature all eight teams including India who will start their campaign against England, followed by matches against New Zealand (Jan 11) and Germany (Jan 13).
