Prandelli assures Rossi of World Cup prospect

Rome, Jan 7 (IANS): Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli has assured Giuseppe Rossi that they are waiting for him to recover.

The Fiorentina striker who limped off during Sunday's 1-0 win over Livorno was confirmed to have sustained a second degree lesion to the collateral medial ligament in his right knee, but not as serious as feared, reports Xinhua.

Rossi is expected to take three months to recover and Prandelli asked him not to worry about his chances of playing in the World Cup.

"Forza Giuseppe, we are waiting for you. He has such immense strength and character, he knows full well how much we admire him," Prandelli said Monday.

There were concerns Rossi might have damaged the same anterior cruciate ligament that had already snapped twice, keeping him out of action for two years. Initial reports suggest that Rossi will be sidelined for three months but more tests are needed with a specialist in the United States.
