Benfica enter Portuguese Cup quarterfinal


Lisbon, Jan 5 (IANS): Benfica routed Gil Vicente 5-0 at Luz Stadium here to qualify for the Portuguese Cup quarter-finals, thanks to goals from Rodrigo, Lima and Markovic.

Rodrigo scored in the third minute with a header following a one-two between Siqueira and Gaitan Saturday, reports Xinhua.

Benfica pressured Gil Vicente throughout the game and created three scoring opportunities before Serbian winger Lazar Markovic made it 2-0 in the 16th.

Rodrigo scored again in the 38th, ably assisted by Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, and Brazilian striker Lima doubled the score through a penalty after a mistake from Paulinho against Maxi Pereira. Lima scored again in the 90th to close the scoring.
