Abbiati to retire if not offered new contract

Milan, Dec 20 (IANS): AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati said he will quit the sport if his club offers no contract to him at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old signed a one-year contract last summer, but it is unclear whether he will be offered another one, reports Xinhua.

"It's clear that you start to pick up a few injuries as you get closer to your 37th birthday," he said Thursday.

"However, I remain at the club's disposal for anything. There is no law saying that I have to be the first choice forever."

"But it is clear that when Milan say stop, then I'll say stop. If I don't sign a renewal then I will probably quit the game," he said.

Abbiati was signed by Milan in 1998. He spent time on loan at Juventus, Torino and Atletico Madrid before returning to San Siro in 2008.
