India, Pakistan to clash in Kabaddi World Cup finals


Ludhiana, Dec 13 (IANS): Traditional rivals India and Pakistan will clash in the finals of the World Kabaddi Cup in this Punjab city Saturday.

The final match, to be played at the Guru Nanak Stadium here, will be witnessed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Pakistan Punjab counterpart Shahbaz Sharif. The winning team will take a cash reward of Rs.2 crore.

The Indian women's kabaddi team won the women's final Thursday.

The presence of chief ministers of Punjab of both countries is expected to boost trade, cultural, sports and tourism ties between both countries, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said.

Both chief ministers will also attend the closing ceremony of the fortnight-long World Kabaddi Cup here.

Sharif, the younger brother of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in New Delhi Thursday and met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders. He arrived in Chandigarh Friday evening.

Sharif is also scheduled to visit his family's ancestral village, Jatti Umra in Tarn Taran district of Punjab, 35 km from Amritsar, Sunday. He will also visit the Golden Temple complex.
